Film and show director, driven by innovation and originality, who makes his creative vision come alive.

Nejc Levstik, a 2014 graduate of the Academy for Theatre, Radio, Film, and Television (UL AGRFT) in Ljubljana, Slovenia, has always been committed to developing his own projects. His filmmaking journey began at thirteen when he started creating his first videos; at the age of seventeen, his short film Metka (2009) was awarded Best Foreign Language Fiction Film at the International Film Festival in Karlovac, Croatia.

Films

His documentary Hočem živeti / I Choose to Live (2014), a poignant exploration of a young girl’s emotional struggles after losing her mother, captivated audiences and raised awareness about mental health issues in adolescents.

Over the past decade, Nejc has collaborated with numerous productions, experimenting with various formats and genres. He co-created and directed two of the most successful TV drama series in Slovenia: Usodno vino / Fateful Wine (2015) and Reka ljubezni / The River of Love (2017).

During the global pandemic, Levstik filmed the documentary Pledge to Science (2020), which gathered the voices of patients, medical experts, and professionals from around the world, highlighting the critical role of science in society. The film was broadcast on multiple television channels across Central Europe, including the Al Jazeera network.

His short film, produced for the Alpine Convention (2021), portrays all eight Alpine countries and highlights their shared commitment to sustainability. It was awarded the Gold Prize at the ITFFA festival in South Africa. After that, Nejc traveled to Medellín, Colombia, to direct the short documentary Might Be Anything (2023), picturing the story of the global science journalism community (World Federation of Science Journalists), which was completed in 2023.

In parallel, Nejc has been developing two long-term projects: Kasting / Casting (2016–), a documentary that explores child development, focusing on the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth from infancy to adulthood, and Sasho (2023–), which follows the life of a young medical student who earned international attention by designing a new model of a syringe and is now working on hormone-dependent cancer research, with the potential for revolutionary advancements in breast and uterine cancer treatment.

Nejc has started the pre-production of his first feature film, The Man Who Doesn’t Exist.

Shows

Alongside his passion for filmmaking, Nejc has built a successful career in live television and large-scale show production, working as both a creative director and show director. He has directed various multi-camera formats and prime-time broadcasts, which led to the Eurovision Song Contest. As part of the Slovenian delegation, he successfully guided the team to the finals on three occasions. He also directed five national Eurovision selection shows, Ema (2016–2022), all broadcast live on national television.
